Thoughts behind InDIGO

The last few years have witnessed exponential growth in the demand as well as consumption of denim-wear in the South Asian sub-continent. The fast growing demand for denim-wear has resulted in constant and consistent capacity expansion for denim fabric and garmenting in this region. The continued growth and expansion are throwing up new challenges which necessitate close co-operation and greater collaboration across industry segments and across boundaries.

Even though India was a very late entrant in the world of denim, the industry has been catching up, at least in terms of volumes, even if a major part of what is produced is not high-value. The denim fabric capacities have been growing up steadily in Bangladesh, as well, over the last few years. The garmenting facilities in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are well known all over the world. Pakistan also has huge capacities for manufacturing denim fabric and garments.
